Over the last few days we have seen a passionate debate over national and international airwaves and social media forums regarding the law governing ‘restricted breeds’ of dogs. This all came from our wonderful town and community here in Ashbourne. It is very difficult to stimulate such an important debate in the national media without an accompanying tragedy. Thankfully this wasn't the case.

How do you microchip a dog?

On 1st April 2016 every dog must be legally microchipped. A unique identification number is registered to the animal and the owner’s details are placed on a national database.

Many thousands of dogs and cats that go missing each year and according to 2014 statistics from Department of Environment, less than half of them are reunited with their owners.
