'Restricted Breeds' debate over the last week.
Over the last few days we have seen a passionate debate over national and international airwaves and social media forums regarding the law governing ‘restricted breeds’ of dogs. This all came from our wonderful town and community here in Ashbourne. It is very difficult to stimulate such an important debate in the national media without an accompanying tragedy. Thankfully this wasn't the case.
While we did not see or read all the debates across the country, we understand that Cllr Alan Tobin was the only politician brave enough to engage the mainstream media on such a contentious issue. Animal health and welfare has been mostly avoided by politicians until now. Public discussion is vital in order to implement change.
Thankfully, Cllr Tobin's contribution to this debate has opened up much needed awareness on responsible dog ownership.
It's good to talk and engage. Now let's try to implement change.
