'Restricted Breeds' debate over the last week.

Over the last few days we have seen a passionate debate over national and international airwaves and social media forums regarding the law governing ‘restricted breeds’ of dogs. This all came from our wonderful town and community here in Ashbourne. It is very difficult to stimulate such an important debate in the national media without an accompanying tragedy. Thankfully this wasn't the case.

Did you know that as of the 31st of March 2016 it will be compulsory for all dogs in to be Microchipped?

As a dog owner there are a few things you need to know about the new legislation. 

1. Your dog MUST be microchipped and register on a government approved database such as fido.ie by 31st March 2016

2. You must have a certificate from a government approved database to prove your dog is microchipped and registered on that database. 

Here are 5 top tips to help your pet over the coming months.

1. Keep your pet warm and dry. After your dogs walk or if your cat has been out hunting, be sure to dry them off using an old towel. This will help reduce matting of the fur and skin irritations.

2. If your pet lives outside. Be sure to provide your pet with a winter shelter, this is a raised, covered house or shed which provides a warm dry environment for them to escape the weather. be sure their food and water is also placed in here so they do not have to go out in the rain to eat or drink.
